Not top 10 but top 12.

Top 12 is something to brag about when every two year and four year college in the nation could have gotten the number 12 spot.

In the last three years Butler public safety/campus police departments have been placed on the list of best College Public Safety departments.

In November 2008 they were placed on the list as well. The award is given by Security Magazine, the monthly national publication for security and protection industry. They rank the top 500 safety and security organizations in the United States, but focus on the top 50 of Colleges and Universities.

Director of Public Safety Marshall Matthews was honored to recieve the award by Security Magazine.

"We are very honored to have received this award for the second time in 3 years." Matthews said. "This achievement is shared by the working relationship we have with our students, faculty and staff because they are a part of our overall safe and secure enviornment."

Matthews stated the precautions Butler takes are a 24 hour aggressive patrol, state of the art survelliance systems, a proactive CARE team and a strong student services department.

"This is all the result of public safety department working with all state holders." Matthews said. "Also, this college does everything possible to ensure a safe and secure environment."

With the number 12 security of all colleges and universities, Butler students should feel pretty safe and secure during their time spent at Butler.

"I don't ever have any problems here at Butler," Johnson City freshman Kenny Butler said. "I feel safe while I am here."
