PTK hosted a signing day on both the Andover and El Dorado campuses on Monday, April 4. Students were invited to the campuses to pledge their commitment to graduating from Butler with their Associates Degree.

"Butler's graduation rate is 24%. As a chapter, we decided to raise that percent by 10%," said Hollie Pool, president of Phi Theta Kappa.

At 11:00 a.m. the Butler Jazz Band began to play to set the mood for the event. As students started trailing in they were invited to grab a cookie and a drink.

Dr. Karla Fisher, Vice President of Academics, spoke first. She discussed the importance of the event and welcomed all the students.

In total, PTK reached out to 70 students at the event in El Dorado and many other students attended in Andover.

After Fisher delivered her message, Dr. Jacqueline Vietti, Butler President, spoke on the facts surrounding transferring credits to larger schools and graduating with an Associates Degree.

Vietti also displayed a slideshow containing the facts about graduation for the audience.

The reason for the event was to explain to students the advantages of completing their degree through Butler.

"Someone with an Associates Degree would be more likely to get a job over someone in their third year of college," Poole said.

"You never know what life is going to throw at you," Poole said.

One of the eye catching parts of the PTK signing day was the Struggle Wall.

The Struggle Wall was a sectioned off piece of the room where students could write down the things that hold them back at Butler and the things that push them forward.

Some of the struggles were:

"Make sure to attend your classes."

"Death of a loved one."

"Know what classes you need to take to complete your Associates Degree."

"Juggling school, work and a family."

"Not able to decide on a major."

All of things demonstrate the advice and struggles that Butler students go thru during their time at the school.

It was PTK and the faculty's aim to encourage students to complete their Associates Degree while at Butler in order to better prepare themselves for their futures.
